Land of Snowy Mountains

Himachal Pradesh is a state in northern India which name means "Land of snowy mountains". Located in the western Himalayas, it has a varied landscape and a climate which spans from sub-tropical to alpine. Shimla, the state's capital, was the summer capital of the British Raj until India's independence in 1947. At that time one fifth of the world's population was administrated from here.
